Planning Aid
Advice

Volunteers who are registered corporate members of the Royal Town Planning Institute can provide advice on behalf of Planning Aid. There is also a role for corporate members to act as mentors to less experienced volunteers or to mentor more experienced corporate members who volunteer.

'As a Corporate Member of the RTPI I have been asked to provide advice. Typically I have received about one case per year. I have advised a rural parish council on how to make comments on a draft local plan, helped individuals make objections to planning applications or understand the development control process. The best result for me was getting a recommendation for permission to be granted for a poor development seriously affecting neighbours, changed to a refusal'.

Students, retired members and other interested volunteers may be able to volunteer at our community planning events and support corporate members.
